Thank you , , , and many others for tuning into my livestream!
Again, there is pixelation for which I apologize. I will figure this out!
Hi, friends!
In this week’s livestream, we played with the Munsell primaries again while painting this sweet Violet-Green Swallow. It was fun to pare down to the basics and mix colors. I’m a woman of simple pleasures, with mixing paint being up at the top of that list.
I recommend you gather your yellow, green, blue, purple, and red paints, and play in your sketchbook or, even better, take them out into the field with you. Practice matching and mixing the specific colors you see. Push shades from warm to cool (adjusting a color’s temperature), shift them to the realm in between colors (for example, yellow to yellow-green to green-yellow to green, etc, just to get a feel for shifting hues (colors) around the wheel, and play with the complement pairs — green/red, blue/orange, purple/yellow — to see what muted colors you can make.
We are entering a season of birds, and I’ll have more to say about that in the newsletter coming out next week. Also in next week’s livestream, we’ll draw and paint the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus varius). Like I said in the livestream, we’re going to get a lot of practice drawing birds and get very good at it, too!
