Hi, friends!

This week we marvel over the pollinators — the creatures that are key to feeding us. Birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles, and small mammals are responsible for every third bite of food we take.1

Let that sink in for a minute. Every third bite!

Across this island for years, the local garden club has been establishing Monarch Waystations with milkweed for butterfly larvae to feed on when they hatch and nectar plants for the adults. The Park staff protects areas of milkweed habitat found in the park and watch for the adults and caterpillars. We are encouraged to plant milkweed near our homes. Anecdotally, it looks like these efforts work. I notice more monarchs every year, and it makes my heart sing.
