Hiya!
I’m making progress on the application portfolio. While I will send a photo of an actual nature journal page with my application, I wanted to make something more polished – as if I were making a poster for a client.
I settled on the Northern Cardinal because it is a regular visitor to my bird feeder and a year-round resident of the island like me. Plus I had my own reference photos that I’ve wanted to do something with for years.
After I finished the drawing, I realized I made the female cardinal too plump, which threw off the proportions. Below is a little timelapse showing me making the correction.
The next step is to ink it. I’ll use a dip pen and my absolute favorite ink - Dr. Ph Martin Black Star. It’s waterproof so it won’t budge when I apply watercolor (the step after), plus it’s just beautiful.
Okay, back to the drawing board… literally!
