A Review Of The Foundation
This week is an interruption of the originally scheduled post, but hopefully there's still something interesting to be found
Hello, friends!
We had a medical emergency in my household this week, and it’s completely sent my schedule into disarray. My beloved mum, who the week before was sick for a few days in the aftermath of her shingles vaccine, woke me up at 12:30 am Monday because she wasn’t feeling well. I could tell something was very wrong. She’s a strong 85-year-old woman who has beat cancer and other things we won’t go into but she’s bounced back each time and is in good health – ambulatory, sharp of mind (and wit!), able to cook, clean, and care for herself, etc.
So when she tells you that she isn't feeling well and needs to go to the emergency room you don’t ask questions, you just go. Ultimately she was transported to the “big hospital” a little over an hour away from where we live because it had the doctors and equipment she needed. So that’s where I’ve been spending my days this week instead of writing June’s theme post with the prompt.
She’s okay and home now, but we are settling into a new normal as she recovers and we get everything set up so she can continue to live a life of quality and substance.
So rather than skip this week again – and since we have several new people in our community (hey, there, welcome!) – I thought it may be a good time to list links to our previous month’s themes and activities. This week’s prompt is to choose a prompt that resonates with you and/or go outside with your journal and observe.
Next week, I’ll be back with the June theme post and prompt. Meanwhile, enjoy!

Nature Journaling Foundations

During April, May, and June, I’ve tried to write theme posts and come up with prompts that help build a foundation for nature journaling: exploring and observing the environment that surrounds us and recording our interactions with it with questions and notes in our journals. Below is an index to what I call “The Foundation.”
April: Lost In Wonder
April was all about tapping into your sense of wonder and letting your senses take the lead as you opened yourself to your surroundings.
Lost In Wonder
Dearest Reader, First I’d like to thank you for subscribing. It’s been two months on this platform and I’m so grateful you’ve welcomed me into your inbox (and browser)! After spending the last eight weeks figuring out what Substack is capable of in relation to my mission to share my delight in nature and demonstrate nature journaling, my goal for this sp…
May: Curiosity Chains
In May, we created links in our knowledge chain as we blissfully jumped down rabbit holes.
Curiosity Chains
Dearest Reader, In May the geese call out hello from high above as they return from their winter homes. The winter songbirds, Chickadees and Nuthatches, are joined by their friends from the south. And the starkly naked trees and shrubs begin to leaf out.
June: Creative Curiosity
And in June, we’ll explore the practice of scientific storytelling with words and pictures.
Look for the theme post and prompt next Friday!
